Early days…
The couple met while Julian was on a business trip to Uzbekistan, where Oksana was working as a marketing manager. "Almost straight away, we knew we wanted to spend our lives together," says Julian, who proposed marriage a few months later, while they were dining in a Georgian restaurant in Uzbekistan's capital, Tashkent. He also travelled to Rabat, Morocco, where Oksana's father lives, to ask for her hand in marriage.
Hen and stag parties…
Oksana had a party in Tashkent to celebrate the start of her new life in the UK and to bid farewell to her family and friends, while Julian and friends spent an exhilarating weekend in Newquay coasteering - a mixture of swimming and cliff jumping. "Although we had a fantastic time, there were moments when we were all terrified," admits Julian. His best man was an old friend Luke, whom he has known for eight years. For their honeymoon, the couple went to Exmoor and spent four quiet, romantic days by the sea.
The venues…
The couple did not want a religious service, so the register office suited them perfectly. The reception was held at La Place Bistro in Winchester. "We've had wonderful evenings at La Place, where we often go for a quiet drink or dinner, so it seemed an obvious choice to celebrate our big day there. We also wanted a small wedding for 30 of our closest family and friends, and the size and atmosphere were perfect for the occasion," says Julian.
The dress…
Oksana bought her Greek-goddess style dress of silk and cotton from United Colors of Benetton in Uzbekistan. "It was the first dress I tried on, and I knew it was the one," she says. She teamed her gown with a necklace that matched her engagement ring. Oksana had a natural and fresh hairstyle, accented with flowers to match those of her bouquet.
The flowers…
"The bouquet was very large and looked striking and elegant, especially as Oksana's dress was so simple. She knew exactly what she wanted and the florist made a fantastic job of creating her dream bouquet. It consisted of large and small pale pink roses, deep green ivy and pearl strands threaded between the leaves," says Julian.
The best bits…
The newlyweds walked from the registry office to the restaurant. "We all walked through Winchester town centre on a busy day. Everyone was watching and cheering. It was one of the highlights of the day," says Julian.
Top tips…
"Start planning and organizing early. It was hard work making all the arrangements in two months, even for a small wedding. Also start saving early." The couple were also pleased with having a small wedding in a more unusual venue and not having to follow all the normal traditions.
